A comparison of photo samples of this lens and the more-recent multi-coated 50mm F/1.4 Sears lens shows that the earlier non-multi-coated version is much sharper. I read claims in the Manual Lens Forum that the non-MC 55mm F/1.4 version was also manufactured by Tomioka. Here is a link to its thread: http://oomz.net/mf/viewtopic.php?id=209
